Magnesium is important for many different aspects of our health. It is responsible for activating more than 300 different enzymatic reactions in our body. It is crucial for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, blood clotting, energy production, nutrient metabolism and bone and cell formation.

Stress, for example, can be caused by a magnesium deficiency. The lack of magnesium tends to amplify the stress reaction, aggravating the problem. In studies, adrenaline and cortisol, by-products of the "fight or flight" reaction associated with stress and anxiety , have been associated with decreased magnesium.
